During the week of Aug. 12, the borough’s water department will be conducting a fire hydrant flushing inspection program.

According to public works officials, this is a preventative maintenance process in order to remove sediment build-up in the water mains, thereby, improving the water quality.

The inspection allows the water department to monitor water flow, pressure and perform necessary maintenance to hydrants, officials said.

Residents are advised that at times, the flushing may cause momentary pressure loss and discoloration, this is only temporary.

If the water is discolored, residents may want to avoid washing clothes. When flushing is finished, simply run the cold water until it is clear, according to officials.
