After six weeks as acting township police chief, Darren Powell was voted to the permanent post Tuesday night.
Chief Powell joined the Hillsborough Police Department 22 years ago. He was appointed to corporal in 1999, sergeant in 2002 and lieutenant in 2009.
Chief Powell is also a 2014 graduate of the FBI National Academy, a professional development course for US and International law enforcement leaders.
Powell succeeds Paul Kaminsky, who is retiring after nearly 10 years as chief in the township.
Mayor Frank DelCore said it was “with honor that the township once again is able to promote from within to this prestigious position.”
Powell was joined at the ceremony by his wife, Kathleen, and one of his two daughters, Courtney. Daughter Amanda is away at college.
Chief Powell will be paid $151,672 a year.
