An elderly couple was hospitalized following a three-car crash Thursday afternoon in Hopewell Borough.
At 3:57 p.m. the Hopewell Township Police Department, the Hopewell Fire Department and Emergency Medical Unit and the Hopewell Valley Emergency Services, were dispatched to a motor vehicle crash on West Broad Street between N. Greenwood Avenue and Louellen Street.
Officers found a Honda CRV, a Ford Expedition and a Chrysler Town and Country had collided.
The Honda CRV was driven by Richard Yager, 72, from Pennington-Hopewell Road in Hopewell Township. Mr. Yager, who received minor injuries, was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center by the Hopewell Valley Emergency Services and paramedics from Capital Health.
The Ford was driven by Sharon Staats-Savage, 57, from Route 518 in Skillman. Ms. Staats-Savage was taken to the Princeton Medical Center by the Pennington First Aid Squad for treatment of minor injuries.
Two passengers in the Ford — June Staats, an 84-year-old female, and Francis Staats, a 90-year-old man — were taken to the Princeton Medical Center by the Hopewell Fire Department Emergency Medical Unit with minor injuries.
The Chrysler was driven by Kristen Schuyler, 20, from Manville. Ms. Schuyler was not injured.
Investigation revealed that Mr. Yager was traveling west on West Broad Street when, for an unknown reason, he veered left, crossed the center line and hit the front of the Ford driven by Ms. Staats-Savage, who was traveling east. Next in line of traffic, the Chrysler hit the back of the Expedition, which had stopped abruptly.
West Broad Street was closed for one hour between N. Greenwood Avenue and Louellen Street. Traffic was detoured.
The investigating officer, James Hoffman, issued Mr. Yager a motor vehicle summons for failure to stay in his lane.
