The Hillsborough Township Committee promoted two long-time veterans of the police department to the positions of lieutenant at a committee meeting.

Hillsborough Township municipal officials recently announced that the vacancies in the position of lieutenant were the result of recent retirements and the promotion of Police Chief Michael McMahon. A swearing-in ceremony to officially administer these changes from the police were held at the township committee’s Oct. 15 meeting.

“We are fortunate to have the depth of experience within our department for promotions such as this,” Hillsborough Township Mayor Frank DelCore said during the swearing-in ceremony. “There is nearly 50 years of combined experience with these two officers.”

Lieutenant David Fisher joined the Hillsborough Police Department in 1993 in the patrol division. In 1998, he moved to the investigated division and then back to Patrol in 2000. Fisher was appointed to corporal in 2007 and later promoted to sergeant in 2016.

He most recently served as a sergeant in the investigative division. In addition to his many letters of appreciation and commendations, lieutenant David Fisher received Top Cop recognition in 2004, 2005 and 2006.

Lieutenant James Omert joined the Hillsborough Police Department in 1996 in the patrol division. Omert was appointed to corporal in 2007 and promoted to sergeant in 2013, all while remaining in the patrol division. Omert also received Top Cop recognition in 2000 and 2002.

Joined by their respective families, Fisher and Omert were sworn in at the Oct. 15 meeting.
