South Brunswick police investigating thefts of post office mailboxes

SOUTH BRUNSWICK – Police are investigating the theft of two mailboxes in front of two post office locations in the township, according to Police Sgt. Dennis Yuhasz.

Police Officer Kent English responded to the Dayton Post Office at 347 Georges Road for a possible theft in progress at 6:39 a.m. on Dec. 1, according to police.

English along with other officers canvassed the area for any suspects and located the front post office mailbox had been pried open and several letters were still inside. A witness advised English two individuals were observed walking around the post office attempting to make entry. The two individuals were seen later leaving the area northbound on Georges Road in an older model white car, according to police.

Later that morning at 9:58 a.m. Police Officer Aaron Parks responded to the Monmouth Junction Post Office at 651 Ridge Road for a report of an additional damaged mailbox, police said.

A check of the post office uncovered the front mailbox was also pried open and empty. Parks canvassed the area and spoke with a witness who observed a white sedan in area at 4:00 a.m.
