Cause of residential fire in Marlboro under investigation

MARLBORO – The cause of a house fire in Marlboro was underway on the morning of Dec. 30.

According to a press release from the Marlboro Police Department, at 9:31 a.m., police received a 911 call from the homeowner at 3 Morris Court who reported that smoke and flames were coming from the basement of the home.

Morris Court is in a residential development off Union Hill Road.

Police officers were dispatched to the scene and upon arrival the officers reported that smoke and active fire were coming from the basement, according to the press release.

The homeowner was able to evacuate the residence prior to the arrival of police officers and firefighters. The fire went to two alarms and was brought under control at about 11:15 a.m.

Firefighters from the Robertsville Volunteer Fire Company, the Morganville Volunteer Fire Company, the Marlboro Fire Department, the South Old Bridge Volunteer Fire Company, the Gordons Corner Fire Company and the Monroe Township Fire Company responded to assist in fire control operations, according to police.

The cause of the house fire is being investigated by the Marlboro Fire Prevention Bureau and Patrolman Gregory Battaglia. There were no injuries reported and the fire is not considered to be suspicious in nature, according to police.

The Morganville First Aid and Rescue Squad, Jersey Central Power and Light, and New Jersey Natural Gas also responded to the scene of the fire.
