Hopewell Borough is looking to acquire a new dump truck for the Department of Public Works.

The Borough Council will hold a public hearing on Sept. 3 to adopt a bond ordinance appropriating $78,000 for the acquisition of the truck. The ordinance authorizes $74,100 in bonds for the purchase.

“This truck will replace an old 2001 rusted-out dump truck that has reached the end of its useful life. We’ll be reducing our tiny fleet by auctioning that one, plus a 1999 pickup that has almost no life left, either,” Borough Administrator Michele Hovan said. “This new truck is a need, not a want, and it has been in our capital plan for several years. We take good care of our trucks but even with all that care, the years and the wear and tear just win out.”

The new truck will be purchased off a state contract.

“We expect to buy it from stock inventory, so that we can put it into use by mid-fall,” she said.
