Marissa Creelman’s Gold Award project consisted of starting a FIRST FLL robotics team at Auten Road Intermediate School for sixth graders.

Ten out of 70 students were selected to compete on the team in the FIRST (For the Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) FLL (FIRST Lego League).

The project took 90 hours to complete and included all FIRST FLL team members, Hillsborough High School Robotics Team 75 representatives, and mentors from the Hillsborough Middle School FLL team, according to information provided by Hillsborough Township after the Aug. 11 committee meeting.

The students learned about public speaking, teamwork and strategy.

“The Township Committee extends our sincere congratulations to Marissa Creelman for having earned her Girl Scout Gold Award, an honor for both her and for those who have guided her.  We wish Marissa all the best in her future endeavors,” Mayor Doug Tomson said in the statement.

Creelman is a 2020 graduate of Hillsborough High graduate and member of Girl Scout Troop 60786.

She participated in the Hillsborough High School Robotics Team 75’s pit crew for the FIRST World Championships in 2017. She was also a member of the National Honor Society and mentored at FLL summer enrichment, according to the statement.

This fall, she will be an incoming freshman at Belmont University, studying audio engineering.

“Marissa serves as an example to the youth of Hillsborough Township through her achievements, leadership and community service, and we are very proud that she is a member of our community,” Tomson said in the statement.
