South Brunswick reports increase in school-aged children with COVID

The number of positive cases in South Brunswick over the past week were the second highest since the pandemic started in March.

The increases appear to mirror what health experts had anticipated with the Thanksgiving holiday, according to information provided by the South Brunswick Office of Emergency Management on Dec. 14.

South Brunswick also saw an increase in school-aged children. Many of these cases are entire families becoming ill, according to the statement.

All residents are urged to maintain social distancing, wash hands regularly, and wear cloth face masks over mouth and nose to reduce the spread of the disease.

STATISTICS:
This past week, South Brunswick officials were notified of 86 new cases of residents testing positive. This number represents a 16% increase in new cases than were reported last week, and is the second largest number of new cases reported in a single week in South Brunswick over the course of the pandemic, according to the statement.

In addition, 19 cases were reported from previous weeks.

South Brunswick currently has 1,064 cases of residents who have tested positive.

There was also notification of an additional death attributed to COVID, a woman in her 80s, bringing the township’s total fatality count to 35.

Statewide, 3,635 people are hospitalized due to COVID as of Dec. 14, representing a 4% increase. Middlesex County saw its numbers increase to 36,739 total cases, according to the statement.
