Caitlyn Sonier, first grade teacher, is Sunnymead Elementary School’s Governor’s Educator of the Year for 2021.
Sonier has been a member of the Hillsborough School District faculty for eight years.
She created Bitmoji classrooms and interactive libraries as a way to engage virtual students this past year, according to a proclamation presented by the Hillsborough Township Committee on May 25.
She was a volunteer liaison for the Sunnymead Home and School Association for one year and a Hillsborough Education Association representative for several years, according to the statement.
She has volunteered at Sunnymead Elementary School for Craft Night, Dark Gym and Rita’s Night.
Sonier also served as a mentor for a long-term substitute last year and worked for three years at the Hillsborough School Summer Enrichment program, according to the proclamation.
