East Windsor police officers rescue fire victim

A fire in an abandoned house at 82 Hickory Corner Road Extension nearly claimed the life of a victim who was inside the house when it burst into flames on Sept. 3.

The victim was discovered by two East Windsor Township police officers, who were the first emergency responders to arrive at the scene shortly before 3 p.m., according to the East Windsor Police Department’s Facebook page.

When patrol officers Robert Galvin and Michael Adelung arrived, they discovered the house was engulfed in flames, according to the post.

Galvin and Adelung began checking the exterior of the house, and noticed a disoriented and injured person inside. They forced their way into the house and removed the victim from the house, according to reports.

The victim was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center for treatment of smoke inhalation and fire-related injuries, according to published reports.

Firefighters from East Windsor Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1 and East Windsor Volunteer Fire Co. No. 2, along with firefighters from Hightstown Engine Co. No. 1, published reports said.

Firefighters from Robbinsville, West Windsor, Plainsboro, Millstone, Cranbury and Upper Freehold townships also responded to the scene.

Emergency medical technicians from Robert Wood Johnson EMS, Hightstown EMS and West Windsor EMS also responded, according to reports.
