Police officers on patrol noticed the man, who was reportedly carrying a set of bolt cutters, walking on McCosh Circle off Hartley Avenue shortly after 1 p.m. Nov. 17. He was observed walking toward the rear of a house on McCosh Circle with the bolt cutters, police said.

Because of the rash of car thefts, car burglaries and the thefts of catalytic converters from cars, the officers decided to follow the man, according to the statement.

The officers stopped him to talk to him, and placed him under arrest for possession of burglar tools, according to reports. During the investigation, he was allegedly found to have a loaded handgun in his possession, police said.

The man was charged with the offenses, and taken to the Mercer County Correction Center with a pending court date.
