The New Jersey Association of School Administrators (NJASA) presented Freehold Regional High School District Superintendent of Schools Charles Sampson with a Distinguished Service Award at it annual Spring Leadership Conference.
According to the association’s website, members are honored each year by NJASA for their outstanding service to education, to NJASA, and for their dynamic leadership and their service to the children and youth of New Jersey. The Distinguished Service Award is the highest honor conferred upon NJASA members.
Sampson serves as a Monmouth County representative to the NJASA Executive Committee.
NJASA noted Sampson’s work establishing an Aspiring Administrative Cohort with Montclair State University, where he also serves as an adjunct professor.
“I am deeply honored to have received the Distinguished Service Award. I have had the good fortune of learning from some amazing mentors and colleagues and am humbled to be recognized in this manner.
“Throughout my years as a superintendent, my main goal has always been to ensure that all students achieve their dreams thanks to an excellent educational experience.
“I will always advocate for the children of the Freehold Regional High School District and those across New Jersey through my various leadership roles,” Sampson said.
According to information posted on the Freehold Regional High School District webpage, Sampson began his tenure as superintendent on June 6, 2011. He oversees all school-related matters regarding curriculum and instruction, personnel, staff training, facilities planning and budget development.
Under Sampson’s guidance, the Freehold Regional High School District was named one of “America’s Best-in-State Employers 2019” in New Jersey by Forbes magazine, according to the webpage.
Sampson spent the majority of his career in Essex County, beginning as a social studies instructor at Livingston High School. He has worked in a variety of administrative capacities.
Sampson has served as president of the Garden State Coalition of Schools, a network of approximately 100 high-performing New Jersey school districts dedicated to quality education for all, according to the webpage.
Sampson was named the Monmouth County Superintendent of the Year in 2017 and the New Jersey Region II Superintendent of the Year in 2018. Currently, he serves as the president of the Monmouth County Superintendents Roundtable.
