NORTH BRUNSWICK – A North Brunswick Township High School (NBTHS) student who is a youth advocate for Tourette syndrome has been named a “Kid Who Makes Magic” by radio station Magic 98.3.
According to NBTHS Principal Pete Clark’s nomination letter, every year Ally Abad attends the Tim Howard Leadership Academy for children with Tourette’s that takes place at Rutgers University. During this time, students stay in the dorms for four days and learn every aspect of their disorder from neurologists, research scientists, social workers and psychologists.
For the last three years, Ally has participated in the New Jersey Center for Tourette Syndrome (NJCTS) Walks for TS in Princeton, and in three years has raised $4,000. The money benefits NJCTS Education Outreach, which provides statewide education, peer advocacy and on-site school in-service presentations.
Chris McCoy read Ally’s story on-air on Oct. 21. She will be invited to an awards banquet at the Pines Manor in Edison on Nov. 18.
