Neve Shalom of Metuchen, 250 Grove Ave., will present a Holocaust related film series on Thursdays at both 11:15 a.m. and 7 p.m. each week.
“The Book Thief” will be shown at 11:15 a.m. or 7 p.m. Feb 9. The moving story of a girl who transforms the lives of those around her in Germany during WWII, stars Geoffrey Rush and Emily Watson. 131 minutes in English.
“The Pianist” will be shown at 11:15 a.m. or 7 p.m. Feb. 16. The winner of 3 Academy Awards, including Best Actor Adrian Brody, this true story of one of Europe’s most acclaimed young musicians shows what happened to him in the Warsaw Ghetto. It is a miraculous tale of survival by best Best Director award winner Roman Polanski. 2 hours and 30 minutes, in English.
“Sister Rose’s Passion” will be shown at 11:15 a.m. or 7 p.m. Feb. 23. It tells the inspirational story of Sister Rose Thering, who had the courage to resist the status quo and pushed for what she thought was right. Her work had a direct bearing on the Vatican II Council that changed the Church’s position on Jews and Judaism. 88 minutes, Documentary in English.
“Son of Saul” will be shown at 11:15 a.m. or 7 p.m. March 2. This year’s Academy Award Winning Best Foreign Film tells about a Jewish prisoner in Auschwitz forced to assist the Nazis. While working, Saul discovers the body of a boy he takes for his son. Saul tries to carry out an impossible task to find a rabbi and give the boy a proper burial. 107 minutes, in Hungarian with English subtitles.
