Hazlet has opened is doors to veterans.
The Hazlet Township Committee passed a resolution that authorized that the use of an office in the municipal building will be granted to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
The DAV will share an office every Tuesday and Thursday from 10 m until 2 p.m. The DAV had written a letter to Hazlet Township, requesting a room to be used on a part-time basis
This office will serve as central location where veterans can meet and receive assistance while submitting benefit applications.
Charles Hoffman, who was among the veterans who attended the committee meeting on April 4, praised Hazlet officials for their generosity.
“I always believe in talking about the goodness in others,” said Hoffman. “It think that this is a very good move.”
The DAV is expected to begin using the office this week.
Joan Dooley and Ann Prentice approached the committee about unpaved streets in their neighborhood.
The streets that they pointed out are Frances Place, Annette Court, Lillian Drive and Gibson Drive.
According to Dooley, potholes have consistently been appearing since 2012, and despite re-pavements, potholes develop within a few months.
She provided the committee with photos to prove her claim and asked for the roads to be re-surfaced. The committee agreed to follow up.
In other business, the committee appointed Alex DelBuono as a laborer for the Department of Public Works and approved the issuance of a raffle license for the Hazlet Middle School Parent Teacher Organization.
The next committee meeting is scheduled for April 18.
