In this 23-minute documentary, Rabbi Kevin Hale joyfully practices the sacred craft of Torah restoration, bringing new life to scrolls saved in Czechoslovakia during the Shoah. As his scribal work takes him to communities now entrusted with the scrolls, he reflects on his own path to faith and practice.

The Jewish Center cares for one of the Czech scrolls, so we are delighted to offer access to this new film from October 4-13. Then, at the close of Simchat Torah, we’ll host a Zoom Q&A with Rabbi Hale and the film’s director, Miriam Lewin, a Princeton native with deep roots at The Jewish Center.

You may want to create your own double feature by watching or re-watching A Story to Tell (14 minutes) about the reunion of Czech Torah Scrolls from Sušice that took place at The Jewish Center in 2012.

This program is proudly sponsored by the Havurah Minyan, which has been conducting member-led Shabbat morning services at TJC for more than 30 years. The centerpiece of our service is participatory and engaging Torah study – and we’d love to have you join us.
