The Freehold Jewish Center will host a new dramatic reading of award-winning playwright Gary Morgenstein’s explosive drama Free Palestine about academic freedom, anti-Semitism and the perils of parenting on Sunday, March 12 at 2pm. Previous sold-out events have been held at Congregation Agudath Achim in Bradley Beach and Center Players in Freehold.

The March 12 reading features Jackie Kusher (Adam Seitz); Tavea Sanderson (Vanessa Bickford); Marina Chan (Estie Seitz); Jordan Brown (Reggie Bickford); Randy Cooper (Preston Tyler) and Kristina McKinney (Nadia Ruiz), with Miriam Kapelushnik handling stage directions.

There will be a talkback following the reading featuring Rabbi Nathan Langer, spiritual leader of Freehold Jewish Center; Susan Rosenbluth, Editor and Publisher of Jewish Voice and Opinion, and Mr. Morgenstein. Gary Morgenstein’s novels and plays have been featured in national media from The New York Times, Entertainment Weekly, Parade Magazine, the New York Post, and Sports Illustrated to NPR. An award-winning playwright, Morgenstein’s numerous stage dramas also include the Perry Award-winning (for Best Original Play) poignant drama A Tomato Can’t Grow in the Bronx about a working-class Jewish family in the tumultuous 1960s, and the Broadway World award-winning (for Best Play) A Black and White Cookie, depicting the unlikely yet powerful friendship between an African American newsstand owner and an eccentric Communist Jew.
