“ Thou shall not oppress a stranger, for you know the heart of a stranger, having been yourselves strangers in the land of Egypt.” Exodus 23:9
On Erev Shabbat, March 20 (Friday night), we will celebrate the strength of those who have made the heart-wrenching decision to leave their homes seeking safety from violence, persecution, war, or disaster. Welcoming the stranger is our Biblical obligation. Even if it were not our responsibility, we understand that helping those in need enriches our own lives. Join us for services followed by a POTLUCK DINNER and music, together with members of the IRRC and I-RISE as well as refugee families!
The Jewish Center’s Interfaith Refugee Resettlement Committee (IRRC) has worked in collaboration with I-RISE (Interfaith Refugee and Immigrant Services and Empowerment, affiliated with the US State Department) to assist in the resettlement in the Princeton area of families from Afghanistan, Cameroon, Eritrea, Pakistan, St. John, and Tibet.
Please bring a vegetarian dish to share. Hot entrée, salad, and beverages will be provided by The Jewish Center.
