Join the Woodbridge Public Library virtually as author and historian Peggy Gavan July 14 at 7PM as she takes you back in time to discover New York’s maritime history while sharing some amazing stories of famous (and not-so-famous) seafaring cats of Old New York.

Explore the history of Chelsea Piers, Brooklyn Navy Yard, New York Docks, and more while meeting some memorable nautical felines and the sailors, dock workers, and ship captains who came to their rescue—and then came to love them.

Peggy Gavan is the author of The Cat Men of Gotham: Tales of Feline Friendship in Old New York (Rutgers University Press, 2019). She is also the creator of The Hatching Cat: True and Unusual Animal Tales of Old New York, which has been featured in Newsweek and The New York Times. This website explores the history of New York through amazing stories about cats, dogs, horses, cows, and other animals that made the headlines in the 1800s and early 1900s. Peggy lives in Warwick, NY, with her husband and three cats.
