Business Administrator Veronica Wolf said the budget as introduced totals $88.77 million to operate the school district from July 1, 2016 through June 30, 2017. The budget would be supported by the collection of $61.71 million in taxes from residential and commercial property owners in Manalapan and Englishtown.

The district’s 2015-16 budget totaled $87.56 million and was supported by the collection of $60.06 million in local property taxes.

Wolf is projecting that the K-8 school tax rate for Manalapan will remain flat at 93.1 cents per $100 of assessed valuation for 2016-17. The owner of a home that is assessed at $400,000 will continue to pay about $3,724 in K-8 school taxes during the next year. The owner of a home that is assessed at $300,000 will continue to pay about $2,793 in K-8 school taxes during the next year.

Wolf is projecting that the K-8 school tax rate for Englishtown will increase from 87.6 cents to 91.7 cents per $100 of assessed valuation for 2016-17. The owner of a home that is assessed at $400,000 will pay about $3,668 in K-8 school taxes during the next year (an increase of about $164). The owner of a home that is assessed at $300,000 will pay about $2,751 in K-8 school taxes during the next year (an increase of about $123).

The May 3 public hearing will be held in the school district’s administration building at 54 Main St., Englishtown. Residents may comment on or ask questions about the budget during the public hearing. The board may vote to adopt a final budget for the 2016-17 school year that evening.
