Dr. Gerard A. Schaller, 71 Dr. Gerard A. Schaller, 71, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 23, 2016 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Trenton, Dr. Schaller has resided in Princeton Junction for over 20 years. He attended Eastern Kentucky University where he received his Bachelor’s Degree and went on to receive his Master’s Degree from Ball State University in Muncie, IN. Dr. Schaller continued his education obtaining his Doctoral Degree from Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Dr. Schaller began his career as an elementary school teacher in Muncie, IN and Ewing, NJ. He was then the Helping Teacher with the Mercer County Superintendent of Schools which was under the auspices of the NJ Department of Education. He served the West Windsor / Plainsboro School District as Vice Principal in the Maurice Hawk and Dutch Neck Elementary Schools, as Principal in the Wicoff Elementary School and as the Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent. He went on to be the district’s Assistant Superintendent where he was in charge of Curriculum, Instruction, Operations and Strategic Planning. Dr. Schaller continued his career having served as the Chief School Administrator of Mountainside School District, retiring in 2004. Even in retirement Dr. Schaller continued his passion for education at the NJ Principal Supervisors Association serving as the Director of the NJ Leader to Leader Program and the Coordinator of the NJ EXCEL Superintendent Certification Program. He also served as an Adjunct Professor at the College of St. Elizabeth. Dr. Schaller cherished quality time with his family and friends. He enjoyed traveling and times on Long Beach Island. He will be remembered for being very social, engaging in conversation, his genuine interest in other people and always being the life of the party. Predeceased by his parents, Edward F. and Mary (Delate) Schaller and his loving and caring brother, Edward M. Schaller; he is survived by his loyal wife, Deborah (Borden) Schaller and his loving sons, David and his wife, Elina, and Jonathan; his brothers-in law and sisters-in-laws, Barbara Schaller, Dr. Alexander and Patricia Pagnani, Dr. Robert Borden and Karen Borden; his nieces and nephews, Kimberly and David Corso, Michael and Judy Schaller, Melissa and Linwood Miller, Dr. Alex and Luisa Pagnani, Dr. Chris Pagnani, Sean Pagnani and Brandon and Alayna Borden; several great-nieces and nephews; and many cousins, including Maryann and Joseph Bielamowicz. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 29, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of St. David the King, 1 New Village Road, Princeton Junction, NJ 08550. Private cremation will follow. Visitation for family and friends was held on Thursday, April 28, 2016, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Church of St. David the King, 1 New Village Road, Princeton Junction, NJ 08550. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Dr. Schaller’s memory to the Church of St. David the King, 1 New Village Road, Princeton Junction, NJ 08550 or to the Dr. Gerard A. Schaller Memorial Fund. Checks should be made out to “WWPHSS” with “Gerry Schaller MF” noted in the memo section and sent to High School South, 346 Clarkesville Rd., West Windsor, NJ 08550, Attn: Kate Rainey. Arrangements are under the direction of the Saul Colonial Home, 3795 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square, NJ.
