HOPEWELL: Soccer teams succeed in hometown tourneys  

In their final tournament together, the Hopewell Valley girls under-11 Tsunamis won the Hopewell Valley Memorial Day Tournament in convincing fashion by winning all four games with a combined goal differential of 11-2.
The Tsunamis defended their title in the host tournament with a seven goal scorers: Kathryn McCabe (4), Kirsten Ruf (2), Maura Graham, Ava Brass, Rory Danieluk, Addie Sullivan and Andie Cappucci.
Leah McManimon provided the assist of the tournament with a booming goalie punt that was collected by Kathryn McCabe and driven home to lead the Tsunamis to a 1-0 victory over the 4th-ranked team in Delaware-Kirkwood KSC Academy.
The Tsunamis’ core strength is their defensive line led by Mae Fesmire, Addie Sullivan, Madison Ayres, Rory Danieluk, with Kirsten Ruf in goal. Caroline Mormile, Emma Smith, Maggie Buglino and Charlotte Tellier created pressure on the opposing midfield and defense, creating a number of scoring opportunities.
The tournament victory was bittersweet; this will be the last chapter in a wonderful run as Tsunami teammates. The Tsunamis will be forever grateful for the friendships they forged and to the dedication of their coaches, Chris Cappucci, Chris Sullivan and Brian McManimon. 

The under-14 girls Hopewell Valley Hurricanes finished the HVSA Memorial Day weekend tournament with two wins and one loss to earn 2nd-place medals.
The Hurricanes opened tournament play with a 3-0 win against the Langhorne Freedom. Ellie Hawkey got the Hurricanes on the board in the first half, scoring off a Julia Peters service into the box. Second-half scores were delivered by Julia Alito and Fiona McCaffrey to seal the win.
The Hurricanes finished Saturday with a 2-1 victory over the Robbinsville Blast. Charlotte Hare put the Hurricanes ahead with some slick dribbling that set up astrike from close range. McCaffrey finished off the Blast with a breakaway score after slicing through two defenders just past midfield.
The two wins on Saturday set up a championship showdown with TBAA Premier Strykers on Sunday morning. After a scoreless first half, the Hurricanes conceded two penalty-kick scores. McCaffrey pulled the Hurricanes back with another run through the defense, slotting the ball past the keeper to make the score 2-1, but the Strykers defense turned away several Hurricanes chances to end the game.
Maddie Schraderand Kate Allen shared goalkeeping duties behind a defensive effort from Chloe Mummert,Emily Cooke, Carly Sison, Adelinne Danieluk and Anna Cappucci. Tireless midfield play andpinpoint passing was turned in by the midfield/forward group of Anna Neal, Jolene Evich, Molly Rhoads, and Kerry Buglino throughout the tournament. 

The under-11 Hopewell Bolts won the Hopewell Valley Soccer Association Memorial Day Tournament with a 4-0 record on the weekend. The team outscored their opponents, 22-3, with each Bolt scoring at least once.
The Bolts started the tournament with a 5-1 win over the Plainfield Ecuador Juniors. Tied, 1-1, at the half, the Bolts blew the game open with four second-half goals. Gunnar Casano, Tom Hooks, Han Sol Kim, Henry Garnich and Alex Luedeke scored. Goalie Bradley Shreve stopped a penalty kick and another free kick inside the 18-yard line.
In the second game, the team beat the Perth Amboy Jaguars, 7-2. Casano and Luedeke both scored two goals, while Hooks, Aldo Branham and Merrick Liu all added a goal.
The Bolts started the second day of the tournament with a 7-0 win over Hillsborough Everton with Luedeke and Casano both scoring two goals and Ethan Gross, Liam Sciple and Shreve also seeing the net.
Playing for the championship the Bolts beat Robbinsville Mooch, 3-0. Luedeke scored twice and Hooks once, while Casano, Gross, Garnich, Hooks and Branham repeatedly smothered the Robbinsville attack.
Bolts goalie Shreve let in only a single goal over the four games. Opposing coaches awarded game MVP recognition to Shreve, Luedeke, Liu and Kim, respectively.

 
Every player on the team scored as the Hopewell boys under-10 Riptides went 3-1 to win their age group in the Hopewell Valley Memorial Day Soccer Tournament.
The Riptides opened with a 4-3 loss to Perth Amboy. Garrett Wille,Brandon Napoleon and Daniel Golian each scored, while Kieran Karp had twoassists and Napoleon one.
The Riptides then got rolling with a 3-1 victory over the YMS 05 Celtic.
Wille, Karp, and Christian Mayer each scored, withNapoleon, Karp, and Lukas Ansari assisting.
Next the Riptides overcame a two-goal deficit to strike a 5-4 comeback win over Council Rock.
Matthew Whitlock, Cameron Velez, Rex Peters, Karp and Mayer each scored while Napoleon (2), Wille, Karp, and Velez had assists.
The Riptides closed the tournament with an 8-1 win over Hillsborough with 8 different Riptides scoring: Alex Romano, Charlie Stocks-Natalias, Karp, Ansari, Napoleon, Peters, Mayer, and Golian.
Wille had two assists and Peters, Napoleon, Karp, Whitlock, Golian and Peters each had one. 
