Church will present performance of ‘The Crucifixion’

FREEHOLD – “The Crucifixion,” a musical presentation by John Stainer, will be presented at the First Presbyterian Church, 118 W. Main St., Freehold, at 7:30 p.m. April 14. Admission to the performance is free.

The church choir will perform with guest singers Edward Washington II and Grant Mech. The director/organist is John Cavicchio.

Washington was born in Oxford, England, raised in Saudi Arabia, and now lives in New York. He is a former Orlando Opera Affiliate Artist, and a former artist with Florida Opera Theatre and Central Florida Lyric Opera.

Washington has been a featured soloist with the U.S. Air Force Band, Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra, Orlando Philharmonic, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Morgan State University Choir and the American Spiritual Ensemble.

Mech is an alumnus of Opera New Jersey’s young artist program. He has appeared in concerts and recitals, singing works such as Brahms’ “Requiem,” Mendelssohn’s “Elijah” and Schubert’s “Schwanengesang.”

Mech is the director of music at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, New York, and the choral director at Rancocas Valley Regional High School Mount Holly.
