On May 1, the council adopted a bond ordinance that provides an appropriation of $1.2 million for crosswalk improvements and road design, resurfacing, repairs and restoration. The down payment for the improvements is $58,000, with $1.1 million to be financed in bonds.

According to the ordinance, the improvements include, but are not limited to, West Main Street pedestrian crosswalk improvements, engineering design on Phyllis Road and Frances Drive, the resurfacing of Bennett and Hudson streets, and various road repairs and restorations in the borough.

During a meeting on April 17, the council adopted an ordinance amending a 2015 bond ordinance that generated funds for the purchase of capital equipment and potential improvements to Borough Hall and the Freehold Public Library.

The $305,000 bond ordinance included a $13,000 allocation for professional services associated with a review of municipal buildings, according to Business Administrator Joseph Bellina.

Officials subsequently determined $13,000 was insufficient for those services and amended the ordinance to increase the amount to $63,000, according to the amended ordinance.

That change, according to the amended ordinance, does not increase the aggregate appropriation and the debt authorization of the bond ordinance.
