Mark J. Schmidt, broker-associate with Gloria Zastko Realtors in North Brunswick, will be riding once again in the Tour de Cure, a cycling event to raise money to further the mission of the American Diabetes Association. The ride will be taking place June 25 in Princeton.
Schmidt first became involved in the ride years ago.
“A friend of mine told me he was going to ride in the ten mile Tour de Cure,” Schmidt said. “I had never ridden a bike for 10 miles before, so I figured I would sign up and we could ride together.”
After training for a few months, he raised the necessary amount of money to qualify to ride, and the ride went off without a hitch.
Since riding in his first Tour de Cure, many things have changed. Now, Schmidt rides exclusively in the 30-mile Tour de Cure. He also has expanded his fundraising efforts to include email campaigns, promotion through social media and building a buzz through online videos. Anything that brings more attention to the Tour de Cure and the American Diabetes Association, Schmidt will do it.
“While I first decided to ride in the Tour de Cure for fun, I soon realized the American Diabetes Association does important work,” Schmidt said. “In fact, the ride means a lot to me because I ride in memory of my Uncle Eddie, who had a tough time with the disease. I also realized that many of the tools I use to market and sell the homes I list could be used to promote the Tour de Cure, and the response has been fantastic.”
