SOUTH BRUNSWICK – The New Jersey Department of Transportation (DOT) has announced a temporary lane closure and alternating traffic on Route 27 on the Carter’s Brook and Ten Mile Run Tributary culvert replacements project in Franklin and South Brunswick.

Beginning at 8:30 p.m. on June 22 until 6 a.m. on June 23, DOT’s contractor, Montana Construction Corp., will close one lane and alternate traffic on Route 27 at Carter’s Brook Bridge in order to place concrete barriers, restripe and shift Route 27 southbound traffic from the temporary bridge onto the center portion of the new culvert bridge for the next stage in construction. The shift in traffic will remain in place for several months to allow for work to continue on the new culvert bridge.

Route 27 northbound will not be changed and will remain on the new shoulder of the bridge so work on the new bridge can advance, and the temporary bridge can be removed. One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained on the bridge during construction.

The $3.37 million federally-funded Carter’s Brook and Ten Mile Run Tributary culvert replacement project is expected to be completed by early 2018. The two culvert bridge replacements will occur in stages, with the Carter’s Brook culvert work occurring first. The new wider culverts will retain a single 12-foot wide travel lane in each direction, but will now also have an 8-foot wide shoulder in each direction.

Variable message signs are being utilized throughout the project limits to provide advance notification to motorists of all traffic pattern changes associated with the bridge replacements. Throughout the project, DOT will provide information before upcoming road closures.

Motorists are encouraged to check www.511nj.org for real-time travel information.
