On June 21, Doce was found guilty of murder and conspiracy to commit murder following an eight week trial in New Brunswick.

During the trial, Middlesex County Assistant Prosecutor Vincent Vitale and Middlesex County Assistant Prosecutor Kristen Pridgen presented evidence and testimony that Doce convinced a co-defendant, Daniel F. Medaglia, to kill Kelvin Dumo, 28, of Edison.

Police were alerted to the crime when the Dumo’s body was discovered at Viking Terminal on Jernee Mill Road in Sayreville on Nov. 6, 2011. Kelvin Dumo died from blunt force trauma to the head.

Doce was arrested and charged after Police Sgt. Michael Daniewicz of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office and Police Detective Douglas Sprague, now retired, of the Sayreville Police Department determined that Doce discussed the homicide with Medaglia before the victim was fatally beaten on Nov. 6, 2011.

Medaglia, 32, of Edison, was sentenced to 30 years in New Jersey state prison. He is required to spend 30 years in prison followed by an additional 5 years of parole.

The sentence was imposed by Nieves, in accordance with a plea agreement reached with the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office. Medaglia pleaded guilty to murder in the first degree and agreed to testify against Doce at trial.

Another co-defendant, Ryan Morrell, 35, of Dunellen, was sentenced to a probationary term of one year with the conditions that he remains offense and drug free.

Morrell pleaded guilty to a disorderly person’s offense of hindering the apprehension of another, Medaglia, by driving him from the crime scene.
