MARLBORO – Municipal officials have awarded contracts for a pair of capital improvements in Marlboro.
During a recent meeting of the Township Council, members of the governing body awarded a contract to Meco Inc., Millstone Township, for improvements on Greenwood Road. The company’s bid of $358,004 was the lowest responsive bid among 12 bids that were received. The highest bid for the job came in at $579,245, according to the council.
According to a description of the project, Greenwood Road has been deemed to be in poor condition. Phase one of the project will include milling and overlay of the entire road, plus curbing, driveway restoration, drainage improvements and pavement striping. Marlboro has received a $220,000 grant from the New Jersey Department of Transportation to help pay for the work.
Council members also awarded a contract to Precise Construction Inc., Freehold, for the construction of a new synthetic turf field at the H&L Soccer Field, Recreation Way. Precise Construction’s bid of $1.13 million was the lowest responsive bid among four bids that were received. The highest bid for the job came in at $1.24 million, according to the council.
The bids were split four ways: a base bid to construct the turf field; a second bid to construct bleachers at the existing field; a third bid for a walkway to the Marlboro Middle School from the field; and a fourth bid to construct bleachers at the new field. Precise Construction bid $897,480 for the base bid, $96,830 for the second bid, $37,020 for the third bid and $95,055 for the fourth bid.
A section of the contract provided by the township states that “the Lower Lit Field at H&L Park gets a lot of use due to having lights. This puts a lot of stress on the grass. We believe the funding set aside to redo the irrigation would be more well spent on turfing this field. This would make the field much more useful. The idea here is that the township would redirect funding from the irrigation project budget and Soccer Boosters and Rec Utility would pick up the remaining portion of the bond payment.”
