Jeffrey Golden, a former resident of South River, is the first non-barrister appointed Head of Chambers at 3 Hare Court, a leading civil and commercial set in England.
An elected Honorary Master of the Bench of the Honourable Society of Middle Temple, Golden is a specialist arbitrator and expert with more than 40 years’ experience of capital markets matters, including swaps and derivatives, as well as international equity and debt offerings. He has acted extensively for the International Swaps and Derivatives Association, including as a principal author of its master agreement which has since been adopted worldwide.
The Middle Temple is one of the four Inns of Court in London and is governed by its masters, also known as benchers, who are elected by their peers from senior members of the bar and judiciary.
The position of bencher is particularly prestigious, with the majority being Queen’s Counsel, senior barristers appointed by the monarch for their eminence as advocates. Within Middle Temple circles, Golden will be addressed as Master Golden.
Before becoming a member of 3 Hare Court in 2014, Golden was the first non-English law qualified partner and founding partner of the United States law practice at Allen & Overy, the first U.S. qualified partner appointment in London by any Magic Circle law firm. Prior to this, he practiced in the New York and London offices of Cravath, Swaine & Moore.
Golden currently serves as chairman of The P.R.I.M.E. Finance Foundation in The Hague and is a member of the foundation’s Panel of Recognised International Market Experts in Finance.
He is also a governor and honorary fellow at the London School of Economics and Political Science, where he previously held an appointment as visiting professor.
Golden plans to return for the South River High School (SRHS) Class of 1968 reunion in October. He was inducted into the SRHS Wall of Fame in 2006.
