IHCNJ was established in 1998 to provide basic health screenings and disease prevention throughout the state, according to a statement from the non-profit organization. Due to the group’s efforts, more than 10,000 documented health screenings for uninsured or underinsured New Jersey residents were accomplished under the leadership of President Dr. Tushar Patel and trustee Dr. Ashok Patel, along with other physicians, volunteers and committee members.  The objective is early diagnosis and intervention to avoid long-term medical and emotional complications and reduce the financial and emotional burden on the families and community, according to the statement.

IHCNJ has also been named a finalist in the NJ BIZ Health Care Heroes in Education Hero category, with the award ceremony set for June 19 at the Palace at Somerset Park.
