Middletown officials put funding in place for capital improvements

MIDDLETOWN – Capital improvements will be carried out throughout Middletown following the adoption of a $5.21 million bond ordinance by the Township Committee in July.

On July 16, committee members voted unanimously to appropriate funds that will be used to finance improvements, the acquisition of equipment, and upgrades to existing technology.

Bonds or notes in the sum of $4.07 million will be issued to pay a portion of the expenses. The remaining $1.13 million will be financed through a $150,000 open space grant and $775,000 that is expected to be received from the New Jersey Department of Transportation, according to municipal officials. The township will appropriate $214,225 as the down payment on the projects.

The capital improvements noted in the ordinance are as follows:

• The acquisition of emergency equipment, including air packs, $306,000;

• The acquisition of a municipal vehicle, including a sport utility vehicle, $36,750;

• Technology equipment upgrades, including the acquisition of fiber for main and remote offices, and mobile printers for the police department, $543,500;

• Improvements to buildings and grounds in the township, including the replacement of the roof at Croydon Hall School, $490,550;

•The acquisition of a property on Newman Springs Road, $125,000;

• The acquisition of public works equipment and vehicles, including pick-up trucks, garbage trucks and video pipe instructional cameras, $611,100;

• Parks and recreation improvements, including improvements to the playground at Leonardo Beach, Croydon Hall School and Nutswamp Park, remote control hardware and software upgrades, $209,600;

• Road improvements, including improvements to Thompson Avenue, Tindall Road, Tan Van Place and Ballah Place, including miscellaneous road, sidewalk, curb and drainage improvements, $2.26 million.
