EAST BRUNSWICK – The East Brunswick Board of Education has approved a memorandum of agreement for the College Pathways Program with Middlesex County College (MCC).
The College Pathways Program provides the opportunity for East Brunswick students to receive college credit and high school credit simultaneously for high school courses that have been reviewed and deemed the equivalent of college courses at MCC, according to the board.
“This is a continuation of a program that is now in its third consecutive year of the enhanced relationship we have with MCC,” East Brunswick Superintendent of Schools Victor Valeski said. “The relationship existed previously, but we have increased once again the number of course offerings that are qualified for dual enrollment and we are appreciative of the relationship.”
Dual credit courses are taught by East Brunswick teachers who hold at least a master’s degree and have been appointed as coadjutant staff by MCC.
Dual credit courses are limited – but have nearly tripled over the years – and are offered at a reduced college tuition cos. Credits are transferable to numerous colleges across the country, according to the board.
The emphasis in adding credit-eligible courses has been to provide students with options in English, math, social science, history and world language, considered the “core” of the first two years of a baccalaureate or associate degree. Greater emphasis is also being placed on the role of guidance in working with students on career and college plans and interests, according to the board.
Students may opt to receive credit for one course or work to complete an associate degree and enter college as a junior, according to the board.
