MANALAPAN – Republicans will be back in complete control of the Manalapan Township Committee in 2019. A victory by Republican Barry Jacobson on Nov. 6 has given the GOP a 5-0 majority on the governing body.

According to results posted online by the Monmouth County Clerk’s Office, Jacobson defeated Democrat David Kane, 8,113 votes to 7,502 votes, to win his first three-year term on the governing body. Kane, who joined the committee in January 2016, will end his service on Dec. 31. The results will not be official until they are certified by the county.

Jacobson will join fellow Republicans Jack McNaboe, Susan Cohen, Mary Ann Musich and Kevin Uniglicht on the Township Committee in January and will serve a term from January 2019 through December 2021. Jacobson is a current member of the Planning Board.

“I want to thank the voters of Manalapan for their support and I also want to thank Committeeman David Kane for his service,” Jacobson said. “I am excited to face the challenges of keeping our high level of services to residents with maintaining a stable tax levy, exploring additional ways to share services, and expanding the ratable base in town without sacrificing our character. I look forward to meeting the residents.”

Jacobson, who is retired, has lived in Manalapan for more than 20 years. He has served on the Zoning Board of Adjustment, the Economic Development Council, the Environmental Commission, the Manalapan Arts Council and the Transportation Committee.

Commenting on the outcome of the election, Kane said, “I am grateful to the residents of Manalapan for electing me three years ago to serve on the Township Committee. It has been a privilege and I’m lucky to have had the opportunity. I greatly appreciate all those who actively supported and voted for me earlier this month. I congratulate Barry Jacobson on his victory and wish him and the rest of the committee members the best of luck.”
