The Monmouth County Board of Freeholders is making plans to expand Perrineville Lake Park in Millstone Township.
During a meeting on Jan. 24, the freeholders authorized the acquisition of property in Millstone Township to be added to the 1,241-acre park, a portion of which lies in neighboring Roosevelt.
The parcel to be added to the park is at 36 Pinehill Road, between Millstone and Stillhouse roads. The tract totals 13.39 acres and is known as the Lang property. The freeholders’ resolution indicates the land will be purchased for $332,500, subject to adjustments for acreage, taxes and other closing costs.
The purchase of the Lang property has been recommended by the Monmouth County Board of Recreation Commissioners. The freeholders authorized the purchase of the tract for open space preservation, natural resources conservation and public park and recreation purposes.
Funding for the purchase will come from the Monmouth County Open Space, Recreation, Floodplain Protection, Farmland and Historic Preservation Trust Fund, according to the resolution.
According to the Monmouth County Park System website, Perrineville Lake Park has access at 143 Baird Road, Millstone; 21 Agress Road or 23 Agress Road, Millstone; 49 Witches Hollow Road, Millstone; and 881 Perrineville Road, Millstone (lake access).
Guests may fish for bass or catfish in the lake. Watercraft can be launched into the lake where visitors can canoe, kayak and fish (car top, electric powered boats only).
There are also two trails. The Lakeside Loop is a 1.5-mile multi-use trail on Agress Road. The Pine Creek Trail is a 1-mile unpaved multi-use trail on Baird Road.
Portions of the park west of Agress Road are in the planning phases for future trail and facility development, according to the Monmouth County Park System.
