The Monmouth County Health Department (MCHD) is seeking volunteers for its Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) to strengthen the public health infrastructure and improve response capabilities in the event of a public health response.
The MRC provides members with training, credentials and operating protocols that are required in a public health emergency or natural disaster. MCHD strives to build a roster of medical and non-medical personnel who are willing to work in a team. Volunteers will participate in local exercises and drills, according to a press release.
MCHD administers preparedness activities for the entire county and provides public health services for residents of the following towns: Aberdeen, Allentown, Asbury Park, Atlantic Highlands, Avon, Belmar, Bradley Beach, Englishtown, Eatontown, Farmingdale, Hazlet, Holmdel, Howell, Keyport, Lake Como, Manasquan, Marlboro, Matawan, Millstone Township, Neptune Township, Neptune City, Oceanport, Ocean Grove, Roosevelt, Shrewsbury Township and Union Beach.

Friends for a Cause, formerly known as the Noontime Optimist Club of Freehold, recently hosted its annual scholarship luncheon at the 5 Star Café in Freehold High School. The scholarships were presented in three categories, Community Service, Culinary and Vocational. The Vocational award is called “Tools of the Trade” and is presented to graduates entering the fields of cosmetology, heating and air conditioning. The following students were the recipients: James Ecklyn, Danielle Iantosca, Marbin Mejia-Soler and Sean Rogers. The culinary award was presented to Megan August. The Paul R. Robinson Community Service Award was earned by Katrina Henriques at Marlboro High School. The guest speaker was last year’s winner of the Community Service Award, Jayne McDevitt. Lunch was prepared and served by the culinary students of the 5 Star Café.
