According to results that were posted by the Monmouth County Clerk’s Office, Arnone received 71,224 votes in the 53 municipalities that make up the county. DiRocco received 66,114 votes. The two Republicans defeated Democrats Michael Penna (51,196 votes) and Moira Nelson (50,785 votes).

According to the Monmouth County Directory, the Board of Freeholders collectively oversees five mandatory functions of county government delegated by the state. Each freeholder is assigned responsibility for one of the functional areas (Commerce, Public Works and Engineering; Public Service and Regulation; Human Services; Health and Education; and Finance and Administration).

In another county election, Republican Shaun Golden was re-elected to serve as the Monmouth County sheriff for a fourth three-year term.

According to results posted by the clerk’s office, Golden received 73,454 votes on Election Day and defeated Democrat Raymond Dothard (48,687 votes).

Golden, who chairs the Monmouth County Republican Party, leads more than 600 officers and employees who serve the public safety needs in Monmouth County through the Law Enforcement, Communications, Corrections and Special Operations divisions.

The election results are unofficial until they are certified by the county. The vote totals do not include late mail-in ballots or provisional ballots that were filled out at polling locations on Election Day.
