EDISON – The New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center in Edison was one of four sites selected to transform into a field hospital in the state’s efforts to keep up with the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Col. Patrick Callahan of the New Jersey State Police announced on March 24 the four field hospital sites during Gov. Phil Murphy’s daily press briefing on the pandemic.

Along with the center in Edison, Callahan named the Meadowlands Exposition Center in Secaucus, Atlantic City Convention Center in Atlantic City and periodically the state police’s urban search and rescue facility with locations to be determined.

Murphy said the state’s movement on the field hospitals and other measures to combat the pandemic has the support of President Donald Trump and his administration.

At the briefing, he reported an additional 846 residents testing positive for COVID-19, bringing the total in the state to 3,675.

Murphy also reported an additional 17 COVID-19 related deaths, the largest single day of new deaths. To date, New Jersey has lost 44 residents to the coronavirus.
