“[He] was a devoted husband, father and son, who served the Edison Police Department and the citizens of Edison Township for over 21 years,” Police Chief Thomas Bryan said. “He was one of our most conscientious and successful detectives. Sgt. Tierney was held in very high regard by his peers and many other law enforcement officers from throughout the state of New Jersey. Sgt. Tierney was not only one of the most professional, but nicest and compassionate individuals I have ever known. He would go out of his way to help anyone. Everyone will miss Jeff’s smile and larger than life personality.”

Tierney was hired by the Edison Police Department on July 29, 2000. He was well known for his strong work ethic, his willingness to always help a fellow police officer or stranger along with his positive attitude, according to the department’s social media page.
