Titusville Community Remembers a Devoted Educator, Loving Family Matriarch, and Friend to Animals

Patricia Jaynes Hobson, aged 92, of Titusville, passed away peacefully on December 4th, 2023, at St. Mary’s Medical Center. Born in Youngstown, Ohio, and raised in Hopewell, Patricia, known affectionately as ‘Pat,’ moved to Titusville after marrying her beloved husband of 65 years, John A. Hobson, Jr.

A top-notch student at Hopewell Valley Central High School, Patricia graduated with honors. She won a scholarship to Smith College but chose to attend Beaver College (now Arcadia University) in Glenside, PA, majoring in Elementary Education. Pat dedicated 31 years to teaching in Lawrence Township, where she specialized in remedial reading before retiring at 71. Her innovative teaching methods, which included creating educational games, reflected her passion for igniting a love of learning in her students. This passion extended to her family, as she worked tirelessly with her children and grandchildren during summer breaks, fostering in them her own love of reading.

Patricia, an esteemed alumna of Arcadia University, maintained a vibrant connection with her university through her involvement in the Beaver Club. Her participation in alumni reunions and various events at the university was a source of great joy and pride for her. Patricia’s dedication extended into her community service as well. She devoted her time and efforts to the Capital Health Auxiliary, making significant contributions until health issues required her to reduce her active involvement.

An avid Bridge player, Pat always eagerly anticipated her monthly Bridge Club games with close friends. Her love for animals was profound, never turning away stray cats and dogs in need. Her later years were brightened by the companionship of her West Highland Terrier, Peaches, and her beautiful gardens, which were a testament to her green thumb and love for perennials.

Pat’s caring nature, kindness, and generosity deeply impacted her family. She was an extraordinary mother and grandmother, always there for computer courses, reading sessions, or making countless PB&J sandwiches. Her legacy of love and care is remembered by all who knew her.

Patricia was preceded in death by her adored parents, C. Elden and Roselyn Jaynes, her loving husband, John A. Hobson, and her cherished grandson, Brandon McClintock. Her memory is lovingly honored by her daughters: Wendy Hogan of Lambertville; Debra and her husband, Charles Dempsey, of Titusville; and Kim Hobson, joined by her partner Tony Cappiello, of Hopewell. Her legacy flourishes through her grandchildren: Christopher John Dempsey and Jennifer Gray of Lutz; Daniel Hogan Jr. and his wife Cassidy of Skillman; Matthew Hogan and Rosie Bush of Lambertville; Ben Hogan of Lambertville; and Kelsy McClintock of Philadelphia. Her great-grandchildren, Aiden and Ashton Dempsey; Althea Hogan; and Jason, Olivia, and Finn McClintock, also cherish her memory.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the nurses at SMMC and Vitas Hospice for their exceptional care during Patricia’s final days. The viewing will be held 10:00 am on Saturday, December 9th until time of service at 11am at the Wilson-Apple Funeral Home, 2560 Pennington Road, Pennington. The burial will follow at Harbourton Cemetery. Condolences are welcome at www.wilsonapple.com.

In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to “Best Friends” of Utah or any Veteran or Animal charity in Patricia’s name, honoring her lifelong love for animals and commitment to charitable causes.
