Girl Scouts honor teens with Silver awards for community leadership projects

The Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore recently honored 43 young ladies from Monmouth and Ocean counties with the Girl Scout Silver Award during an event at the organization’s Program Activity Center in Howell.

The Silver Award is the highest honor a Girl Scout Cadette in sixth through eighth grade can earn, according to a press release.

A girl must complete a service project that exceeds 40 hours and has a lasting impact on her community. The Silver Award help girls build skills, explore careers, gain leadership skills and make a commitment to self-improvement, according to the press release.

“I am so impressed with all the projects the Silver Award Girl Scouts have completed and earned,” said Eileen M. Higgins, CEO, Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore. “Our Girl Scouts made a difference for the Jersey Shore through projects as diverse as ‘A Guide For Learning Origami’ and ‘Girl Power Activated: Career
Component’ to ‘Paws For A Cause.’ ”

Programming offered by Girl Scouts teaches life skills and values that members use throughout their lives to guide their actions and take the lead like a Girl Scout, according to the press release.

The following area residents received the Silver Award:

• From Morganville: Lasya Balachandran, Brianna Manginelli and Shivani Patel.

• From Marlboro: Sarah Ou.

From Freehold: Sara Hosbach, Daria Kane, Victoria Rebelo and Rachel Sharon.

• From Jackson: Victoria Cicero, Katie Hayden, Eileen Morrison, Juliana Vanyi, Sydney Walter and Emma White.

• From Millstone Township: Georgia Kuchar, Erica Layman, Maeve Muha, Alyssa Pugliese and Sophia Schindel.
