In an effort to aid and assist homeless Bordentown people this holiday season, three local women have come together to organize a purse drive for local people in need.

Through a joint effort between Bordentown residents, Mary Ann Kieffer, Elyse Cardy and Calrissa Max, they are encouraging people in the area to collect small, personal items to fill purses that have been donated to the Trinity United Methodist Church on 339 Farnsworth Avenue in Bordentown City.

“In this small way, you can feel like you’re doing something [to help],” Kieffer said. “The best part of this is to be able to do something – to be able to give something to somebody and give them the little joy that you can.”

Kieffer noted that any resident interested in participating is advised to collect new items such as shampoo, conditioner, assorted bath soaps and lotions, band aids, personal hygiene products, knit hats and gloves, as well as “fun” items like small notebooks, colored pencils and pens.

“Let’s spread a little joy, look at some items that we take for granted, help us fill these purses and let’s make someone’s Christmas a little happier,” Kieffer added.

Participating residents can drop off their items to the side of the Methodist church on any Tuesday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., and have until Dec. 12 to donate.

Residents with any comments or questions about the purse drive are encouraged to contact Kieffer and Max through Facebook.
