Set in the roaring twenties, ‘Chicago’ originally premiered in 1975 and contains extraordinary music and songs reminiscent of the jazz age. A Tony Award-winning Broadway production – now carefully crafted to a teen-friendly edition – will be coming to the Franklin High School Theater for one weekend only! Performances are directed by Kiera Radvanski, choreographed by Lindsey Della Serra, assistant directed by Alizé Martinez, with technical direction by Anthony Francese. Performances will be Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:00 PM April 11, 12 and 13; and a 2:00 PM matinee on Sunday, April 14. This carefully adapted teen-friendly edition of the Tony Award-winning Broadway production captivates with its book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb, a story based on the play by Maurine Dallas Watkins, and script adapted by David Thompson. It presents the tale of Roxie Hart, an ambitious jazz baby who lands herself in Cook County Jail for murder. Roxie’s world opens up as she hires the shrewd lawyer Billy Flynn to turn her notoriety into fame. Alongside the sensationally renown inmate Velma Kelly, another murderess mastering the limelight, the two vie for the public’s attention (and the “American Dream” in a razzle-dazzle courtroom drama filled with moody ballads, over-the-top Broadway-style ensemble numbers, Bob Fosse-inspired choreography, and sharp-witted storytelling.
