The First Presbyterian Church of Metuchen (“FPC”) will celebrate its inaugural Kirkin’ O the Tartan service on October 27th.  FPC’s bagpipe-led parade on Woodbridge Avenue will begin at 260 Woodbridge Avenue at 9:15 a.m.

The Kirkin’ O the Tartan service is a special day to remember the unique role of Protestantism.  Traditional Scottish bagpipes will accompany the Tartans, a woolen cloth woven in one of several patterns of plaid, especially of a design associated with a particular Scottish clan, in the processional down Woodbridge Avenue.  Prayers and hymns will be sung from Presbyterian history to punctuate the ceremony.  Following the march down Woodbridge Avenue, all are invited to worship and fellowship following worship.

“On this day we bring the Bible into the church and declare, ““this is the word of God for you.””  Here we celebrate the role of the Protestant tradition in bringing the Bible in the language people speak and read,” noted Rev. Dr. Fred G. Garry, Senior Pastor of FPC.
