The wind band has a rich and storied history, particularly in the United States (where it is often a young wind player’s first introduction to collaborative music making), with composers as well-known as Julie Giroux, John Philip Sousa, and Gustav Holst writing countless works for the medium. During our inaugural concert on April 14th, the Princeton University Wind Ensemble, Princeton University’s only concert band (conducted by Philadelphia Jazz Orchestra director and director of bands at Princeton High School, Joe Bongiovi), will present works from both the traditional wind band canon and contemporary composers alike, including a special performance by the PUWE Chamber Brass Ensemble. Reception with refreshments to follow immediately afterward in the Lewis Center for the Arts Forum.
