Join the Amateur Astronomers Association of Princeton on Zoom on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at 7:30pm for the AAAP’s monthly meeting and presentation. Guest speaker Dr. Mario Motta, retired cardiologist, amateur astronomer and advocate for mitigating light pollution, will discuss the significant impact of light pollution on the environment and our health. He will share information about current economic and climate-related arguments for use of LED street lighting around the world as well as problems associated with blue light emission and its negative effects on the immune system. Dr. Motta will also discuss safety problems caused by improperly designed lighting features that result in dangerous night-time driving conditions. Free to attend on Zoom.
Dr. Motta is a retired cardiologist with a BS in physics and biology and is an associate professor of medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine. He has worked on light pollution issues as a member of the AMA Council of Science and Public Health and has served on the Board of the International Dark-Sky Association and a UN committee in a worldwide effort to control light pollution and satellite proliferation.
