North Brunswick man charged with accosting teen in bathroom

SOUTH BRUNSWICK – Police have charged a North Brunswick man with accosting a teenage boy at a local restaurant.

South Brunswick police charged George Daymond Shirley, 49, with 4th degree harassment after police were called around 5:53 p.m. on Nov. 16 to a Davidson Mill Road restaurant on a report of a man harassing a teenager in a bathroom.

Police arrived and learned that the teenager had reportedly went to use the single stall bathroom. The teenager went to lock the bathroom door and Shirley allegedly came in, saying he was throwing something in the trash. The teenager told police that he was going to the bathroom and Shirley tapped him on the chest and said OK.

The teenager reportedly left the bathroom and returned a minute later when it was empty. Shirley allegedly followed him in a second time, and when the teenager told Shirley he was going to the bathroom, Shirley purportedly told him to go ahead. The teenager fled the bathroom and told people to call police. The teenager’s father detained Shirley until police arrived, according to information provided by the South Brunswick Police Department.

Shirley was transported to police headquarters where he was processed and charged with one count of 4th degree harassment. He was released on a summonses pending his first court appearance, according to the statement.
