Edison man charged with October shooting in Newark

An Edison teenager has been charged with partaking in a shooting in Newark in October.

Keyon Coleman, 19, was being sought by detectives after he was identified as a suspect in the shooting, and a $100,000 warrant was issued for his arrest, according to a statement prepared by Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose.

Shortly before 9p.m. on Jan. 18, detectives from the Police Division’s Special Investigation Division reportedly spotted Coleman in an Eagles Parkway residence. With the assistance of personnel from the department’s Emergency Operations Division, the officers gained entry into the residence and apprehended Coleman without further incident, according to the statement.

On Oct. 25, 20016, at approximately 8:15 p.m., Newark police had responded to the area of Eagles Parkway and Lincoln Street on a call of shots fired. A 15-year-old female victim was shot. She was transported to University Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Police also located a 17-year-old male victim who had run onto Broome Street after being shot, according to officials. He was also transported to University Hospital for treatment.

Two other victims were shot at during this incident, but were not injured.

Coleman is charged with five counts of aggravated assault, possession of a weapon and possession of weapon for unlawful purposes.
