MARLBORO – The students of Marlboro Middle School will present “The Lion King Jr.” on Feb. 8 at 7 p.m. and Feb. 9 at noon and 4 p.m. in the Vincent A. Parinni Auditorium at Marlboro Middle School, Route 520, Marlboro.
The community is welcome to attend the performances. Tickets are $10 for reserved seating and $8 for general admission. Tickets may be purchased at the Marlboro Middle School main office from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., according to a press release.
“The Lion King Jr.” will be directed by Harlene Ross, with musical direction by Rosemary Mazzara and choreography by Elaine Hyres.
The middle school performance will feature songs from the movie and Broadway versions, including “Circle of Life,” “I Just Can’t Wait to be King,” “Hakuna Matata” and many more, according to the press release.
Ross said, “The Lion King has always been my favorite movie and play. It appeals to all ages and has something significant in it for everyone. The cast this year is phenomenal and really understands the characters. I think this is because they all grew up knowing about Simba, Nala, Scar and the other characters.
“In addition, we will be adding something new in the way of technology to the sets. We are all so excited to bring this production to the Marlboro Middle School stage and hope the entire community will join us at the shows,” she said.
According to the press release, the cast of 40 talented pupils have been rehearsing since October. Edward Reilly and his art scenery students are responsible for set and prop design and the backstage crew.
After the two performances on Feb. 9, the cast members will be available in costume to take pictures with audience members. Face painting will be available for $5 before the earlier Feb. 9 performance, from 10:30-11:30 a.m.
