John Pickett Dismukes, PhD

John Pickett Dismukes, PhD of Skillman NJ passed of Neurological damages at the Park Place on 29 January 2019.

Born of Edna Pickett Dismukes and John Phillips Dismukes in Greenville, SC.

He is survived by his wife, Joan Anne Thompson Dismukes PhD and three sons: Daniel Tracey Dismukes of Maui HI, Nelson Thompson Dismukes of Sioux City, SD and John Phillips Dismukes of Skillman, NJ, and six (6) grandchildren as well as three (3) great grandchildren.

His education was at Sydney Lanier High in Montgomery, AL, Auburn University, The University of Illinois and the University of Muenster, Germany. He was employed by RCA, EXXON and the University of Toledo, OH. Dr. Dismukes began his scientific career at RCA Laboratories in Princeton NJ. He was part of a six man team which was awarded the David Sarnoff Outstanding Team Award in 1968 for work on Thermoelectric Alloys for generating electric power which today is the solar innovation. He had 28 publications and 14 patents and further edited diamond usage reference material. His noted skills were diamond and solar development. John was the 1968 President of the Princeton Jaycees and the Republican candidate for Princeton Borough Council in 1973. He retired from Toledo in 2014 as Professor Emeritus in the Chemical Engineering Department. His memberships and charities were the Electrochemical Society, the American Chemical Society and the NJ Society of Colonial Wars. He was a member of the Montgomery Township United Methodist Church. His philosophy in work and service was “to be grateful is to be great.” John’s great-grandfather‘s home is now the museum of the Montgomery County Historical Society in Montgomery AL.

His private family memorial and burial took place on 5 February 2019 in Hopewell, NJ. Remembrance correspondence may be addressed to Joan Dismukes 1723 Route 206 Skillman, NJ 08558.
